“Think Big, Start Small, Move Fast!”
Overseeing worldwide innovations and creating possibilities in Aruba by focusing on developments that suit Aruba in the best way possible to accomplish it’s great vision to become a sustainable society, is the best way to describe what the Bureau of Innovation (BI) is all about. All knowledge we gain along the way is being shared with people on the island and other islands or small economies.
BI was established in 2014 and forms part of the Ministry of General Affairs, Sustainable Development, Innovation and Science. Our creative team is dedicated to strategically develop, support and advise on the areas of social-, technological- and economic innovation for the benefit of Aruba’s vision to create a sustainable society from a ‘triple helix way of working’ perspective (i.e. government/private sector/knowledge centra) to ensure the sustainability of the projects.
Among projects executed by BI are TEDx-Aruba (an international platform to share knowledge on themes with Tech, Education and Design), Green’S’Cool (educating the next generation on the importance of living green and instill environmentally friendly behaviors among Aruban citizens), Start-up Aruba (private-public initiative to co-create and facilitate the development of a sustainable technology and startup ecosystem in Aruba) and CoffeeBytes (small learning events on different topics).
In addition to our own projects, BI also advises different Ministries, departments, companies, NGO’s and other stakeholders on innovation- and sustainability topics. Considering the above-described projects, you can consider BI a new development department within a company. In the case of BI, the company happens to be the Government of Aruba. This position enables BI to not only make an impact on a national level but permits the dissemination of knowledge to ensure sustainable progress: the true mission of BI.
